Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) Specialist
Location: Thompson, MB Branch Office
MFNERC offers a northern allowance for our Thompson branch office
Functioning as a member of the MFNERC Education Partnership Program (EPP) Team, the Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) Specialist will assist in the development and delivery of the EPP – ESD program. The ESD Specialist will work collaboratively to establish the EPP – ESD program in the development of a First Nations ESD funding grant program and its guidelines for delivery. The ESD Specialist will provide support to First Nations schools and educators in the implementation of local ESD programs/projects. As well, the Specialist will create ESD curriculum for middle and senior years that is relevant to First Nations students. The ESD Specialist also provides professional development to educators in First Nations locally controlled schools on the relevance of ESD in the delivery of the provincial curriculum, as well as providing professional support for the development of school-initiated-courses and student-initiated projects pertaining to ESD local programs/projects. The ESD Specialist supports the delivery of innovative ESD programming to improve quality and standards for students in First Nations schools.
QUALIFICATIONS
· Bachelor of Education, Science, or other relevant recognized post-secondary degree;
· A minimum of five years of positive teaching experience at the elementary and/or senior high levels; a minimum of five years ESD related experience may also be considered;
· Direct experience and knowledge on ESD programs or projects;
· Knowledge of the new Manitoba curriculum frameworks and strategies for implementation;
· Knowledge of Manitoba First Nations education development and reforms in First Nations communities;
· Experience working with First Nations in the field of ESD;
· Experience in researching ESD and the implementation of projects, programs;
· Excellent interpersonal and cross-cultural skills to work in a First Nations environment;
· Ability to develop unique First Nations ESD curricula (written, action-oriented, outcome-based, assessment);
· Ability to establish ESD instructional resource(s) for the reference and use of First Nations schools;
· Demonstrated experience working with First Nations Leadership, Education Directors, Educators, Youth, Community Members, Elders and Traditional Knowledge-Keepers;
· Demonstrated experience in the delivery of local projects that involve youth;
· Computer literate in various database programs and systems;
· Fluency in a First Nations language is considered an asset;
· Excellent oral and written communication, facilitation, presentation skills;
· Ability to work independently and as a member of a team of professionals;
· Extensive travel with frequent overnights required.
