Incorporating Talk Story into the Classroom

Abstract:
Indigenous pedagogy and andragogy can be utilized to inform Indigenous peoples of their specific ways of being, knowing and doing. Talk Story is an Indigenous teaching methodology that utilizes informal circle discussion to integrate individual contributions into collective thought and memory for learners involved.

Toward An Understanding of the Ecology of Indigenous Education

This article discusses the challenges of implementing Indigenous education from an Indigenous epistemological and ontological standpoint. It is intended as a contributing work toward an understanding of the use of Indigenous spiritual ecology, environmental perspectives, and metamorphic thinking in Indigenous education. A self-study inquiry approach is utilized to present possibilities for transformative Indigenous pedagogy and curriculum.

Abstract:
The following article will explore atchakosuk – the spirit lights up above. Ininewuk (Cree) mythology posits that constellations and stars that are prominent in the northern skies are understood through perspectives that are unique to the Ininewuk. For First Nations students and Ininewuk students in particular, it is important that the ancestral worldviews related to science are reflected in First Nations education in as prevalent a manner as those associated with Greek and Roman mythology.
